Residential and Business Flood Defence Case Study – Kent

Yalding -Kent

Flood barriers to protect a home and a business.

Flooding History

Theresa Stafford MBE lives and owns a business in Yalding, Kent.  It is situated on low ground near where the Rivers Teise and the Beult join the River Medway.
On Christmas Eve they received a flood warning and were told to evacuate immediately.  Theresa’s daughter grabbed the children and the Christmas presents and left immediately.  The property was flooded to a depth of 8’ and not surprisingly Theresa describes it as being “totally devastating.”

 Products Supplied

The Government launched the Renew and Repair Grant.  Theresa was eligible for flood protection for both her house and her business.
The paperwork and the process for the Renew and Repair grant was frustrating but she found Adam from UKFDA to be very helpful.  The team surveyed the properties, recommended the appropriate products and then fitted them.  Theresa needed a number of Derwent barriers.

Subsequent Use

Fortunately they haven’t been tested yet in a real situation.

Customer Comments

“I would recommend Adam from UKFDA for his advice on which flood protection products were most suitable and for his helpful service.  In the lead time between ordering and fitting the barriers we had three more flood warnings.  I called Adam to check on the delivery times and he sent me some inflatable sandbags that same afternoon as an interim measure.  It was so very kind of him”
